every once in a while my family orders something off the internet that gets to be delivered by fedex man.
let me tell you about fedex man.
the first time i met fedex man i was sitting on the couch like a bum after school watching some episode of the office that i've probably seen a hundred times, and i hear the door bell ring and despise the fact that i have to get up to attend to whatever jerk made me leave my comfortable position. i open the door and see fedex man with clipboard and package in hand, and a HUGE smile on his face.
"howya doin?" he asked, and i replied with the standard "good, you?", not expecting his response to be any different. but to my surprise, his response was, "blessed by the love of Jesus, so i'm doing great!"
i can't even remember how i reacted to that because i was so shocked, so i'm sure the conversation ended there and i shut the door a few seconds later...but then i came to the harsh realization of how pointless i had allowed that day to become.
fedex man has come a couple other times since that first time, and it's gotten to a point where i actually want to do more online shopping just so he can deliver the package and i can hear him talk about
how much he loves Jesus.
fedex man brings me so much joy because HE is so overjoyed by the love God has shown him. it even overflows into his work, which i would imagine could probably become pretty mundane and tedious.
how different would my life be if i appreciated God's love as much as fedex man does? and if i allowed that love to permeate every area of my life so that every single moment felt full of purpose?
i haven't even taken the time to learn fedex man's name and he's radically changed my perspective on how i treat each day. next time i'm going to ask him what his name is and we're going to be friends.
i can't wait.
this makes me smile
